Highways
Three interstates, Interstate 85 and newly designated interstates 73 and 74, transverse the county. Interstates 73 and 74 will junction in the center of the county and provide a link between the Upper Midwest and seaports in the Carolinas.

Other four-lane highways include U.S. 421, U.S. 64, U.S. 311 and U.S. 220.

Ports
The nearest ports are in Wilmington and Morehead City; the intermodal terminal in Greensboro serves the port of Wilmington. There also is easy access to ports of Charleston, Savannah and Norfolk.

Rail Service
Two Norfolk Southern railroad lines service the county.
