Pisgah Covered Bridge Has Long Life Span

culture, little river, pisgah covered bridge,

There are only two remaining covered bridges in North Carolina, and one of them is in Randolph County.

The Pisgah Covered Bridge was constructed in 1911 at a cost of $40, and it still spans the west fork of the Little River. The one-lane bridge eventually became obsolete as car traffic increased over the years, but today it remains a tourist attraction for pedestrians.

A flood washed the bridge away in 2003, but it was rebuilt the next year with about 90 percent of the materials from the original structure. The bridge was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1972.
