It’s Always Deere Season in Asheboro

business, james river equipment, john deere,

For John Deere customers in Asheboro, only the name and location have changed. Piedmont Tractor, a community institution since 1940, merged with James River Equipment and relocated to a newer, larger facility on U.S. Highway 64.

Company officials say the merger has allowed the operations to enjoy better economies of scale. And when the local facility doesn’t have a piece of equipment, the store can get it quickly from one of the other 10 James River dealers, says Clyde Phillips, general manager and partner.

The new location is more than twice the size of the previous site, allowing for more products on the floor.

The company deals in both agricultural and consumer products, though it’s a hybrid customer that has become one of the company’s most promising.

“The biggest growth area is the part-time farmer who owns a small plot of land,” says Phillips. These nontraditional farmers are often unfamiliar with the equipment, so James River Equipment provides not just the machinery, but service and training for new customers.
